To celebrate Bristol's year as European Green Capital, the Architecture Centre's 2015 Shape My City youth programme undertook a live ‘hands-on’ sustainable building project. During July 2015, Shape My City participants joined forces with Engineers without Borders (EWB Bristol) students from the University of the West of England (UWE) and tangentfield architects to collaboratively design and construct a community shelter. Built from local, sustainable materials (earth, wood, clay) the shelter is located on the Asylum Seekers Allotment Project (ASAP) in St George, East Bristol, and was constructed with and for local asylum seekers. The project was facilitated by staff from the Architecture Centre, UWE and Tangentfield, with UWE EWB students acting as mentors to younger participants.
